Hello, my name is Sasha Pfeiffer. I was born in Ukraine, and immigrated to Canada in 2001 with my parents.

Whoever and wherever you are, I hope that by now, you are familiar with the atrocities committed against civilians in Ukraine, since Russia invaded on Feb 24, 2022.

My distant relatives, pictured above managed to escape the war, and make their way to Poland where they are currently awaiting their CUAET application approval to come to Canada. The family consists of 3 adults and 3 children (ages 2.5, 8, and 10). Although the father is not in the above picture, he was able to leave with the family because they have 3 kids. At this time, 2 of the adults have received their approval letters. The process is taking way longer than we hoped! 

Once in Canada, they will be staying with us, until they are able to find work and earn enough to be able to support themselves. As you can imagine, starting your life in a new country is not easy, especially when you have 3 young children to support, don’t speak the language, and have minimal belongings. Our community has been so generous in donating clothing, shoes, and furniture to make their transition easier. Last week, we were even able to secure a bunk bed, however we are still in need of a single or double bed for an adult, and a fridge. 

A generous friend of ours organized a fundraiser through his business and was able to fundraise approximately $2000 for this family, which will be used to help pay for their airline tickets. 

As most of you know, the CUAET program allows Ukrainian nationals to obtain Work Permits, however, the Canadian government does NOT help with the travel cost, and does NOT financially support the families that will be taking in Ukrainians at this time. 

My husband and I, and our two young boys are lucky enough to be able to take in this family into our little bungalow, and help in any way that we can. However, I started this page to help fundraise for the remainder of their travel costs, as well as to help them start their new life in Canada.
