Help Tyler, Ashley & River Relocate To Safety

We’re reaching out because we need your help. As you may know, we’ve been planning to move to Colorado to secure the most safety that we can find for our family, but the recent onslaught of anti-trans laws in Iowa have made it even more urgent for us to leave. Staying here is becoming increasingly unsafe and unsustainable, and we need to relocate to a place where we can live freely and without fear. Currently Tyler has no Civil Rights in the state of Iowa.
Tyler has dedicated so much of his life to supporting the transgender community. He served on the Ames Pride Board for three years, was responsible for two transgender support groups in Ames, and has worked closely with the local hospital and medical clinics to provide transgender education. He also collaborated with local churches to create safe and affirming spaces for transgender individuals and facilitate services for Transgender Day of Remembrance and Transgender Day of Visibility. Despite his tireless efforts to make Iowa a more inclusive place, the laws here are making it impossible for our family to stay.
Moving is expensive, and while we’ve been doing everything we can to make this happen on our own, we’re realizing that we need financial support to make this move go smoothly, and to have the least possible impact on River. We currently have saved enough to secure housing, turn on all utilities, and pay to get us to Colorado. This will leave our funds completely depleted. However we’ve discovered that moving most of our belongings is not financially possible, and it would be cheaper to replace our belongings with used items when we arrive, moving only what we can fit in our van. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to us and would help cover the costs of securing housing, transportation, and getting settled in a safer, more welcoming place.
If you’re able to assist, we’d be incredibly grateful. And even if you can’t contribute financially, sharing our situation with others who might be able to would also be a huge help!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you can give. We love you all and hope you understand how much this move means for our family’s well-being. We’re growing more fearful by the day. It is a feeling that we can describe to very few people. Please help us escape. We simply want to live our lives, and raise our son.
All of our love,
Tyler, Ashley, and River
