Help 2 Seniors Restore Home Left Unsafe After Renovation

Donation protected

My mother and stepfather are both 73 years old. In June, they purchased a home with the plan of completing a short renovation so they could safely and comfortably age in place.
They hired a contractor in good faith and were told the renovation would take approximately five weeks.
It is now January.
After paying more than $78,000, the renovation remains unfinished. Much of the work that was completed is unsafe, substandard, or must be removed entirely.
One of the most serious issues involves the electrical work. It was not completed by a licensed electrician. After a full inspection by a licensed professional, it was determined that all electrical work must be removed and redone to meet safety and code requirements. The cost of electrical repairs alone exceeds $20,000.
In total, independent estimates show that over $70,000 in additional work is required to make the home safe and livable.
At this point, the house is not safe to live in. To complete the necessary repairs properly, my parents will be displaced for four to six weeks, adding further stress and expense at a stage of life where stability matters most.
Their savings are gone.
At 73 years old, recovering financially from this kind of loss simply isn’t possible. What was supposed to be a brief renovation has left them with an unsafe, unfinished home and no remaining funds to correct the damage.
Legal options are being explored, but those processes are slow and uncertain. In the meantime, the immediate need is to make the home safe and restore basic livability.
My name is Ryan, and I am organizing this fundraiser on their behalf as their son. My goal is to help them cover the cost of essential repairs and get their home to a point where it is safe to live in again.
Funds raised will be used for:
Licensed contractor repairs
Complete removal and replacement of unsafe electrical work
Structural and safety corrections
Temporary displacement costs while repairs are completed
Basic restoration so the home can be lived in again
Photos, contracts, invoices, inspection findings, and repair estimates are available and can be shared if requested.
Every donation—no matter the amount—goes directly toward restoring their home and helping them regain the security they thought they had already paid for.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser makes a real difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for any support you’re able to offer.
