Help Trish avoid living in a shelter
Donation protected
Greetings Lancaster Neighbors,
Trish is 76 years old and for 30 years has lived in the same apartment building and shared the rent with a sister, who was placed in a nursing home in May, 2022. That left Trish in a crisis: how to pay $800/month rent on her own with a total income of under $1,000/month. Since May, her rent has been subsidized by friends and a grant from a group of Methodist churches. But that subsidy will end in June, 2023, and her only option at that point will be Water Street Mission (and they are often full).
In the last year, we have been diligently searching for a place with affordable rent, and made literally hundreds of phone calls to every imaginable agency, housing authority, and landlord. Almost all wait lists for people on extremely low income are closed, but she is currently on four waiting lists. But it may be 2 years or so before any of those come through.
Trish is one of many seniors who face living in a shelter or homelessness as their only option.
We hope you will consider a small donation to help keep Trish in her home for another year. Our goal is to raise $3,600, to subsidize her rent $300 per month for a year. Every dollar raised will go to her landlord for rent. IF more money is donated than Trish needs for rent, the balance of the funds will help with her deposit on a new apartment, and costs of setting up a new home.
(Remember, GoFundMe takes a very small percent of each donation)
Who are we?
Our names are Dave and Jean Wilson, and we live in Lancaster. I (Dave) met Trish about 12 years ago when I was her landlord for a short time. (Until I realized I was not suited to being a landlord!). For the past 10 years, my wife and I have been friends with Trish and her sister. Over those years we have been helping them out with life issues. Trish does not have any family. Your donation will change a life. Thank You.
