As someone who never uses NextDoor the app, I didn’t really understand what I was doing when I posted a “curb alert” about a queen mattress in great condition. Someone commented connecting me with a woman called Trevina, a woman who recently lost everything as her husband is very sick with Parkinson’s Disease and while getting her kids through high school and taking care of him full time- had to quit her job. After a few years of staying with family, Trevina found a house in central Florida through government assistance. She’s so thankful. One problem, they don’t have anything but an empty house. They’re starting over. Trevina was sleeping on the ground until she received my mattress. Trevina’s 4 kids and one year old grandchild are still in need of beds…well, the family is in need of EVERYTHING. They need clothes, shoes, mattresses, bed frames, dressers, couches, dishes, ect.

For that, tomorrow on Trevina’s 26th wedding anniversary, I am renting a truck and driving around to resale shops in the area with the goal of mattresses/bed frames, a kitchen table, and a living room set up. I’ll also be purchasing clothes, cleaning supplies, baby supplies and shower supplies.

Trevina told me she’s been praying for help, desperate to take care of everyone around her while her life feels like it’s crumbling.

As you could expect, I’m accepting any sort of donation- even just a dollar. Every cent will go toward making Trevina’s family set up for a life well lived here in central Florida as she and her kids go back to work. If there happens to be any extra, it’ll go toward her in the form of a check or gift card.
