Help Transition Survivors of Domestic Violence
Donation protected
Help Support the Jijenge Project to transition women who are survivors of sexual and domestic violence in Kenya.
Agatha Amani House is a grass roots safe home for women who are victims of sexual and domestic violence and abuse. It is the first safe home of its kind in Kenya where women and their children can not only find immediate safety from an abusive situation but can stay for a longer period of time to learn new skills that will enable them to find jobs and become independent.
The project seeks to prevent women from leaving the shelter economically inadequate, heightening the risk of being taken advantage of or returning to harmful relationships. It allows them to regain control over their lives and provides motivation.
The growth made by survivors while at Agatha Amani House is always at risk when they go back to the community. This must be safeguarded before they relapse into harmful relationships, or commit a crime just to fend for their families. Safe spaces and opportunities for women and girls are rare, which threatens their survival when transitioning back to the community.
The project will support empowerment and livelihood for the women and their children as they go back to the community; providing 3 months rent, basic household equipment, and a grant to start a business or higher education. In addition, they will be provided with lessons in entrepreneurship, business, and employability skills. Our committed staff will continue mentoring the women in both personal and business development beyond the shelter life.
The project seeks to economically empower over 150 women who are survivors of sexual and domestic violence while inside and outside of our shelter, as well as build a movement of women who all share a common story of resilience, strength, and the will to make a better life for themselves and others.
