Support Local Social Entrepreneurs with Anza
Anza Entrepreneurs is a Tanzanian Entrepreneur Support Organisation which focuses specifically on assisting entrepreneurs to strengthen their operations, increase profitability, and scale their impact to create more jobs and improve access to underserved markets - through providing technical assistance as well as access to capital.
We work with impact based businesses in key social sectors, including agriculture, education, health, WASH and sustainable energy. We believe that entrepreneurs have the power to transform Tanzania's economy through the provision of life-improving goods and services.
Businesses we have supported in the past include:
Temnar provides extension services to farmers thus upping their technical knowhow which enables them to produce more and thus earning more by acting as an off-taker of their produce. Acknowledging that Smallholder farmers lack technical knowhow to produce quality sunflower seeds that can convert into more and quality sunflower oil, resulting in low productivity and eventually low earnings from their produce.
Kazi Yetu processes premium tea by infusing various natural and locally sourced flavors, packs it, and then sells it to restaurants, retail outlets, and wholesalers (both locally and internationally). By sourcing tea and spices from smallholder farmers in Northern Tanzania, Kazi Yetu under its Tanzania Tea Collection brand, markets a traceable commodity, giving tea drinkers a sense of the value they are creating down to the bottom of the pyramid households (smallholder farmers).
Swahili Honey is providing world-class honey to market which is ethically sourced from smallholder farmers and traditional beekeepers in rural areas. Swahili Honey gives smallholder farmers access to free beekeeping training, access to equipment loans, and provides extension services and a guaranteed market to buy all the honey at 2x price they get from the middleman and pay on collection.
Avomeru Group, an agriculture value chain business has created and is running small scale processing factories in villages where avocados are collected and processed into oil. Farmers get paid upon completion of processing. The price that the company pays is higher compared to what they would receive otherwise. On the other side of the aisle, the company is supplying its customers oil that helps them to manufacture cosmetics and for cooking, for the two end users of the product.
ShuleSoft is an edutech company which has designed cloud based software systems that helps to reconcile the needs of all school stakeholders and making it easy for management to make timely decisions and thus deploy resources effectively. The system enables managers to understand who hasn’t paid fees, which classes are under-tutored, which subjects are in dire need for teachers, what parents need and a lot more information that makes running a school a lot better, faster and more efficient than ever.1
Our impact so far:
Anza has partnered with over 1,500 entrepreneurs in 12 regions of Tanzania with strategic capacity building, trade linkages and access to flexible and affordable capital to maximise their ability to create over 4500 jobs and provide access to life-improving products and services. Anza has facilitated equity investments close to $2,000,000 and directly disbursed over $120,000 in loans through the Anza Growth Fund. In the first year following programming, on average Anza entrepreneurs create 3 new jobs, have revenue growth of 20% and reach 12,000 lives.
