Hi, my name is Nicole. As most of you know, covid hit our home when I was 35 weeks pregnant. My 6 year old also tested positive, though had very minimal symptoms, not even a fever. Everything seemed okay at first, but by the 10th day, I got a fever that wouldn’t go down and it was causing Lily’s heartrate to sky rocket. They ultimately made the decision to go forward with a c section on september 3rd, in hopes that the fever would go away and that we would both have better chances that way. After surgery they did an X ray of my lungs and discovered I had bronchitis. After coming out of the OR, we met up with duy in recovery, and he wasn’t feeling so good. He ended up going and getting tested and tested positive for covid as well. he had to go home, as they wouldn’t allow him back into the room.
After the 3 days in the hospital, lily and I were discharged, and went home. The next day, we discovered that duy and I both caught Covid pneumonia. Duy’s worse than mine, as his o2 dropped way lower.
A few days later, lily started acting kind of stuffy. We brought her to the doctor; and the doctor said she was fine. The same night, I went to feed her, and noticed she was freezing. To spare details, we tried everything to bring her body temp up; and she wasn’t responding to stimulation. We rushed her to the hospital and discovered she had covid. She was also really jaundiced. They admitted her as soon as they found a place for her.
While that was going on, duy was also admitted as his o2 levels had dropped into the 70s. he still has at least a few more days in the hospital, but lily is looking like she will be discharged tomorrow. Due to all of this going on; we also haven’t gotten to see Madeline or Faith except through face time. The girls have yet to meet Lily face to face yet. This entire experience has been extremely hard on our family. On top of having a new baby; we have all of these extra expenses that we had not prepared for. Duy was laid off work not long beforehand, though we had money set aside for bills until after lily was here.
we really appreciate all of the community that have come together and helped us so much through all of this already. We are definitely feeling the love, the thoughts, and the prayers. If anyone feels led to, we could use a bit of help financially. As of right now; duy has no insurance. I have no idea how much bills will be looking like but I know it won’t be small. We appreciate everything everyone has already done for our little family. We are hoping we will continue to make smooth steps forward in recovery.
