Hello! My name is LaToya but my friends call me Toya. I'm a 42 year mother of two boys and unfortunately I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2024.

I was in remission for a little bit but unfortunately it came back. Instead of giving up, I decided to take the five day drive tumors and all cross the country. West Virginia to California and Tijuana. I made it to Tijuana and they ran tests, unfortunately the cancer was more than they could handle and referred me to Sharp Chula Vista Hospital in California.

There I was met with wonderful care. The nurses and CNAs became my family. It was my first home here in California.

Although I'm happy that I'm medically stable...I'm not happy about being an hour or so away from my oncologist and treatment center. I had no choice but to take the skilled nursing facility that was an hour away. And I have felt alone since.

This is the reason why I need to rent a place of my own! I will be a lot closer to the oncologist and hospital that was my family here...the ones that saved my life and continue to do so.

I already applied for disability benefits and doing everything I can start a new life, a healthier life here in San Diego California.
