Help Tony Blue Walk Again
On Tuesday, August 19th, Tony Blue was on top of the world. That morning, he proudly posted, “This is the face of a man who just passed his fire, life, and health insurance exams.” After weeks of studying, he was ready to launch a new career and build an even better future for his family.
That night, at 9:18 p.m., on his way to grab wings and celebrate, Tony’s life changed forever. A speeding driver with no headlights t-boned his car. He never saw it coming.
Tony was rushed to UTMC as a Level-1 trauma:
• Multiple brain hemorrhages
• A blocked vertebral artery
• Several broken neck vertebrae (C3–C5)
• An incomplete spinal cord rupture
Surgeons rebuilt his neck with a cage, plate, and hardware to give him a fighting chance. He woke up paralyzed and on a ventilator.
One month later—through grit, prayer, and excellent care—Tony has regained feeling in all limbs, can move his right arm, and is breathing on his own. He’s now heading to an aggressive spinal rehab center out of town. The journey ahead will take weeks of therapy, then skilled nursing care, before he can come home.
Tony is the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. He loves his wife, Irene, and their college-age kids, Josh and Evelyn, fiercely. He’s the one who drives across states for weddings, reunions, funerals—always showing up for family, friends, and his beloved Kappa Alpha Psi brothers. You could always count on Tony. Now, he needs to count on us.
