Less than 2 months ago, my mom, Toni, and my stepdad, Robert, left their jobs and uprooted in the pursuit of a fresh start and a new, more affordable life in Tucson, Arizona. They were over the moon with tears of joy as I helped them unload the truck and settle into their very first house together on 1/22/26, after 8 hours of driving all the way from Ventura County, CA.
On 3/6/26, with a new puppy adopted just weeks ago and decorations freshly mounted on the walls, they couldn't have been more shocked and heartbroken to suddenly find smoke spewing out of a vent in the bathroom ceiling from a fire started by unseen exposed wires. Thankfully, they acted swiftly enough in the moment to alert the local fire department, who stopped the fire before it destroyed everything or got them hurt, but it caved in multiple ceilings and flooded half their home's walls with water.
Currently, the house is red-tagged and they are forcibly displaced until it is repaired up to code. Their angelically kind new neighbors loaned them a small camper trailer to stay in for now, but the house is in a horrible state and they've already run through most of the funds they needed to live on while seeking new jobs in the area. $10,000 in, only the initial demolition phase is in progress with tons of water-soaked materials being shoveled out and asbestos insulation to be handled. They will have to rewire most of, if not all of, the home, rebuild much of the damaged structure, and replace water-damaged flooring, etc. Any help would be received with immense gratitude from our family and any little bit would mean the world.
Thank you,
Steven
