Tom Smith is my brother-in-law from my deceased sister Kim Aguirre. A few years back, Kim was diagnosed with late stage cancer and within one year she passed. Kim lived in California, while all of her family, including me, were and still are residing in other states. Given our distance and responsibilities, most of us could only visit her in California a few times each, which left Tom as her primary support system in all things relative to her care and supervision. He was faced with unspeakable despair at watching her suffer and he never left her side, all the while simultaneously facing off with insurance company limitations and uncaring medical providers who were bound by their commitment to 'insured covered patients only.' Despite this wildly unfair and morally bankrupt system governing her healthcare, he never wavered in his battles against the outside sources defaulting in their duty to heal and fought on her behalf every single day. Kim has left us, but now Tom's welfare is in danger and needs help.
After Kim's passing, Tom sold his primary residence and purchased an RV, which has been his home. He is a contract electrician and cares for two cats and two dogs (one dog was Kim's before she passed). He maintained all of his belongings, both work and personal, his animals, and his residence within his RV. A simple parking mishap triggered the Costa Mesa Police Department to impound his vehicle to a tow lot in Costa Mesa. Tom is now caught in a catch-22 situation. He has nowhere to live, nor do his animals, and he cannot work because his tools and gear are stored in the RV. He is using a borrowed car to sleep, along with his pets. Because he cannot work, he cannot make the money to pay the fees to the tow company to retrieve his RV and home. The tow company is demanding high fees to release his RV, and Tom cannot afford to pay them. I have been trying to negotiate the fees with the towing company and they are willing to accept a reduced amount to allow him to retrieve his RV and property, but only if this exchange happens very soon, within days. He has tried to find local lenders and property he can sell, but to no avail. Those who know Tom Smith personally know that he would hand over every penny he had to help someone in a similar situation, but unfortunately there is no one there to do that for him now.
I humbly and respectfully ask anyone and everyone who reads this post to look inside your heart and, if you can, please help me help him by providing any financial donations you can. As God is my witness, this is a good man with a real problem who needs just a little bit of help. Thank you for listening.
