In just a matter of moments, everything changed for our family.
On April 17, 2026, a fire broke out at my father’s home due to a small leak from the BBQ's propane tank. What began as a minor issue escalated rapidly, spreading to the house and causing extensive damage in a very short amount of time. In just moments, a routine day turned into a life-altering event for our family.
My dad, Tod Thompson, is the kind of person who never hesitates to help others—someone who opens his home, shows up when it matters, and gives what he can even when times are tough. Now, he’s the one who needs help.
By the time the fire was contained, roughly 30% of the home had been destroyed. Although contained to the attic, the roof structure over a large portion of the house lost its integrity and must be completely rebuilt. The kitchen flooring was ruined, and the garage—filled with years of irreplaceable family memories and personal belongings—was heavily damaged.
Tod and his two roommates have been displaced and are now without a home while repairs are underway. While we are incredibly grateful that no one was seriously injured, the emotional toll has been heartbreaking, and the road ahead will be long. It will take many months before the house can be made livable again.
Unfortunately, at the time of the fire, my dad was already facing financial hardship and did not have homeowner’s insurance to cover the damages. We are actively seeking support through local emergency grants and organizations like the Red Cross, but those resources will only cover a portion of what is needed.
We are asking for your support to help Tod rebuild his home and regain a sense of stability. Donations will go directly toward critical repairs such as replacing the roof, restoring the kitchen, and rebuilding what was lost.
Any amount—no matter how small—will make a meaningful difference. And if you’re not in a position to donate, sharing this campaign would mean just as much to our family.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read this and for any kindness, generosity, or support you can offer. It truly means more than we can put into words.
