Help to stop our vulnerable uncle from losing his home

Donation protected
We are reaching out to the local community on behalf of our uncle, a neurodivergent and vulnerable adult, who is currently facing the threat of eviction from his home of 8 years. He urgently needs additional support which we as a family are struggling to provide despite our best efforts. We really hope you will read about his cause and consider helping us raise the funds that he is in desperate need of.

Our Uncle lives with a hoarding disorder—a deeply misunderstood and complex mental health condition that makes it incredibly hard to part with possessions, regardless of their practical or financial value. This isn’t about messiness or laziness. Hoarding disorder is linked to trauma, anxiety, and neurodivergence. It can be overwhelming and isolating, and for someone like our uncle, it has made even the basics of daily life a struggle.

Earlier this year, we were told he was at risk of eviction unless his home was cleared so urgent repair works could be carried out. The property had suffered serious damp issues, which we now know were caused in large part by a burst water main—though the council blamed his hoarding. With the help of Clean Your Clutter, we moved his belongings into storage and made space for the work to begin.

Then, just as things were starting to move forward, the unimaginable happened: our uncle was the victim of an attempted murder. This traumatic and violent event brought everything to a halt, delaying repairs and leaving him even more vulnerable.

Now, with the repairs finally complete, we face another impossible situation.

Unbelievably, the council is threatening eviction again—this time if his belongings are returned to the property. But we can no longer afford to keep paying for the storage unit that’s holding what’s left of his life. As a family, we’ve done everything we can, but we’ve reached the limit of what we can manage alone.

We’re urgently seeking help to cover the cost of temporary storage so he has time to carefully go through his belonging, allowing him the chance to sell his collectible items, decide what to keep, and donate what he no longer needs

Despite everything he’s been through, our uncle continues to give back. He regularly litter-picks around the community, helps his elderly neighbours with small jobs, and donates to local charities whenever he can. He has so little, yet always finds a way to give.

Our uncle is not a problem to be fixed—he is a kind, gentle, vulnerable man who has survived more than anyone should. He deserves dignity, not judgment. Stability, not fear. And right now, he needs a community to show him he’s not alone.

If you can donate, share, or simply take a moment to read and understand his story, we are incredibly grateful. Every gesture of kindness brings him one step closer to rebuilding his life.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
