I'm starting this fundraiser to help get reintegrated back into a home, a covering, a shelter, a dwelling, safety for me and my daughters.
A little bit about me, I am a community advocate, servant, and builder. I hold a nonprofit effort of a mobile pantry that prepares, packages, and delivers meals to low income and homeless families around various counties regardless of income. I have spent many hours cooking on the stove in my previous home. I used my personal vehicle to pickup and deliver goods and food to street residents and low income families who were in need. I stood in front of various officials advocating and demanding better reform for the housing crisis that is costing more lives in Ulster County than it is helping. I've raised awareness for the barriers of the working homeless and I've exposed the deficiencies of the administration in its inability to see the crisis for what it truly is and not what its assumed to be.
Let me tell you where the housing crisis began for me. At the height of COVID when as an essential worker, I could not avoid the four COVID contractions I lived through. Out of work for 30 days each illness round devastated my income and mounted my debt. Finally stable and back to work consistently, I was in a devastating car accident that injured me, took my transportation, and took me out of work for 6 months while nursing an injured back and neck. Again, my family suffered. As a single mother, I was suffocated with mounting debt, no transportation and then eviction. Eviction from a home that I had to spend thousands just to make habitable and a landlord with no issues ignoring crucial repairs, including a front door and access to water; yes..water!. It was a devastating situation, doing what I could to maintain a basic life then suddenly just not being able to whatsoever, physically and financially.
From there me and the girls just left; Thrust into the elements with nowhere to go. I spent time sleeping in a rental car (as my car insurance was cancelled and was off payroll and could not pay for a new policy so renting was the only option), Sleeping outside in different parks, and sleeping in various hotels when I could afford it. Many community members stepped up and graciously donated to ensure personal safety and allow me the privileges' to eat. It was a beautiful display of love that literally saved my life during a moment of uncertainty and severe mental decline.
Because of their love, I was able to get to this point of thinking clearly and searching for permanent housing; but here we are with the devastating housing market being what it is. In my desperation, I am willing to take anything just as long as me, my daughters, my cats, my plants, and my blankets and clothes and belongings can be reunited. Anything just to have some comfort of my bed again, the comfort of space, and quiet and safety. The blessing of being able to cook meals again and to be able to gather so I can serve my community again.
I am working and ready to reestablish self sufficiency, I need to pay;
1) the leap that is required to cover initial moving in costs: Security, first months: $2600
2) replace car insurance: Down payment $1396
3) Uhaul $100
Literally ANY amount helps as this is a combined effort to simply have enough to regain immediate access to permanent housing.
And of course any amount is life saving and is truly appreciated from the top of my soul
