PROTECT THE AMAZON JUNGLE
Today, we are raising money for the non-profit Zivot Postaru so that we can buy primary rain forest land in Ecuadorian Amazon jungle. Our main interest is to preserve the untouched rain forest as is for future generations, so that they can learn about all the species of fauna and flora we have nowadays, how important they are to the balance in nature and the world as a whole, and to teach them how to live in accordance with nature.
We found a precious land with the lagoon of 8 hectares located in Orellana province that was offered for sale from its indigenous owner. This particular land has an immense importance to the protection and preservation of the Amazon fauna and flora. Because of the lagoon, swamps and muddy areas, it is a perfect environment for many birds, insects, snakes, frogs and many more animal species as well as plants. It is also a crucial source of water that needs to be protected from getting polluted by mining and logging activities in the jungle.
Increasing number of metal mining companies (mainly gold) are coming and destroying large areas of the rain forest. These interventions are irreversible, not only by killing trees providing oxygen to all humans and securing correct water circulation on Earth, but also destroying homes of many species of plants and animals that keep on getting extinct every day. The secondary damage by the chemicals used to mine that are disposed to the land and rivers are even larger danger as they poison and kill its ecosystem – a river without fish with polluted water leads to a devastating impact on the indigenous communities living from it.
The land with lagoon is a second project of Zivot Postaru, z.s to set a protected area to preserve the primary Amazon rain forest.
Zivot Postaru is a non-profit organization that strives to protect and conserve the Amazon jungle and helps its inhabitants to maintain their homes, culture and the way of living which is in accordance with and respect for the nature. More at www.zivotpostaru.cz (soon in ENG version).
Zivot Postaru was founded by Allpa Grefa, an indigenous from Ecuadorian Kitchwa tribe and his Czech wife Michaela Grefa Jurastikova. Agustin and Misa live part of the year in Czech Republic and the other in Ecuador where they organize events to educate about preservation of the nature with accent to the protection of the Amazon rain forest and the cultures living there.
In next few years, we hope to create an educational and health center on the lands of Zivot Postaru, to teach kids as well as adults about sustainable living in the nature, wisdoms that nature and plants bring and about further protection of our natural heritage that needs us, humans, to protect it.
Firm cost for the land itself is 12 000 USD.
Estimated costs for all related legal fees are 5 200 USD. This consists of:
- 3 000 USD for topographers to mark our land (cheapest option we found)
- 1300 USD for payments to the lawyer, notary, land registry, administration with municipality and council
- 400 USD food, lodging and transportation for the supervisor fin charge of the process
- 500 USD for unexpected costs and fees (contingency)
From our experience with the purchase of the first protected area we assume that the costs will exceed the estimates but we believe that with your help we can achieve our goal.
So far, we have raised 11 000 USD out of the total cost of 17 200 USD hence we are in need of 6200 USD more until END OF MARCH 2019. We cannot express enough the deep gratitude to everybody who already donated.
As the money is needed for the above, we cannot afford to send any gifts to the contributors, but we want to express our gratitude to generous donators with an electronic certificate for the donation. The donation is also tax-deductible and a donation agreement will be sent to you afterwards.
