N.O.A.P Neighbors Opposed to Annexation of Parcels! We are citizens in need of help and taking action!
This correspondence is an attempt to save our community. As a group of homeowners who reside on the Southeast side of Joliet in an unincorporated area, feel compelled to sound the alarm about the injustices that are happening in our community and to long-time residents whose voices have repeatedly been silenced. We are desperately seeking support and involvement from anyone who may have a vested interest in keeping our city, neighborhoods and community intact and free of crime and all other undesirable elements that come with allowing a large truck stop to be placed in our community.
What Happened:
In 2018, Joliet City Council and Mayor Bob O’Dekirk voted to annex unincorporated parcels into Joliet city limits. This was done with clear opposition from the residents residing within 2500 FT from Briggs Street, New Lenox Road, Oakview Avenue, Herman’s Lane, Mills Road, New Lenox Road and all surrounding streets east of Joliet. Around July of 2019, my family and other neighbors adjacent to the property of 1310 New Lenox Road, which was already annexed into the city of Joliet, due to a former presiding Council Member within Joliet. With that being Said, the annexation of 1310 New Lenox Road made the steal easier for the City of Joliet to encroach on our rights to overtake our properties.
Meetings were secretly held by Mayor O’Dekirk and Joliet's City Planner in a undisclosed location to discuss the future of our properties and the new plans for the City of Joliet. We had no prior knowledge of the city's plan and was keep out of all decisions when it came to Brigg's St or New Lenox Road. The question on all of our minds is how could this tragedy happen without proper notice to any of the unincorporated residents within the surrounding areas. As homeowners we were never notified of any community meetings until a vote was cast which resulted in a two way tie between the City Council and the Mayor. Once the vote was accepted and confirmed within The Joliet City Council we lost our rights, our dignity as well as our community.
A Community in Crisis that needs your Help :
We are being held hostage by the City of Joliet and by Love’s Trucking, who’s representative stated at the City Council Meeting back in 2018. “ It’s not Loves Trucking fault that you people moved down the street and around the corner from a Highway” We as a community would be remiss if we failed to reach out to the surrounding community for assistance. There are many ways to help, as our need is beyond financial. We would be grateful to anyone willing to advocate on our behalf, or by simply getting the word out to national media outlets, newspapers, and philanthropist. Please know, any and all monies secured will be for the use of our attorney fees. We’re being represented by the law Firm of Howard and Howard to help us combat the City of Joliet and Love’s Trucking in hopes of keeping them from destroying our communities; which would result in them reversing their decision and their unwelcomed actions.
We are hopeful but funds are definitely dwindling: our desire would be to get media attention urgently; Donations or Contributions in any amount is appreciated. “What affects one of us, affects all of us,” Thank you for your time.
