Update 7/30/2025: Tierney talked with her endocrinologist who is 98% sure her cancer is back. They're working with a social worker to find care for her son so she can get a biopsy and CT scan to confirm if it's a different cancer and/or spread to other parts of her body
Hello,
My name's Casey and I'm setting this GoFundMe up on behalf of my best friend, Tierney. She is a disabled single mother raising a 12 year old nonverbal medically fragile son named Jax. The father convinced her into moving them up to a place she cannot afford to live without his financial assistance, with no support system for her. As of 7/18/2025 he said he is withdrawing all support and she will be left figuring it out on her own starting 8/01/2025. This man has been in her life since she was 16(she's now 37).
Jax was born premature at 31 weeks, weighing only 3lbs 5oz in Valhalla, NY to Tierney Butler and John Ulicky . He lived in the NICU until 9 months. Tierney didn't get to hold her son for the first time until he was 26 days old. He has OEIS Complex, Short Bowel Syndrome (TPN dependant), ASD level 3, paraplegic, he is tube fed, non-verbal, immune compromised. By the age of 10 he has had 13 surgeries to help improve his quality of life. He is the sweetest, happiest little kid you'll ever meet, and he's always cheesin'. His infectious smile and laugh will light up any room.
Everything Tierney has done since he was born has always been for him, even making sure he had both parents in his life. But the father hasn't seen his son in over 4 months, even though he lives right above him. She has made numerous attempts to reach out and see if he would like to see his son, all of her texts going unanswered. Prior to moving them up to where they're currently living, he had abandoned them 2.5 years ago in Pittsburgh, only paying rent and bills on the rundown apartment they were living in. He only saw his son once for three hours, and that was when he came down to pick up his sound equipment. Countless times she has begged him to come back so she can go to the doctor because a lump was starting to form where she previously underwent surgery for thyroid cancer. As of right now we are waiting for a biopsy to confirm whether or not the lumps in her throat are cancerous.
At the end of the day everyone else in their lives wants to see them moved away from John, and with her support system. We are hoping to move them down south to live close to several of our friends who love Jax and Tierney as much as I do, either in an apartment or trailer. All of us want this to be the fresh start they both have deserved for years. The money would go towards moving, down-payments or security deposits, and whatever is left over would be used to hire a lawyer to get them what they deserve in child support and any other restitution Tierney wishes to go after.
