Cyclone Ditwah has brought the worst flooding in decades to Sri Lanka, killing hundreds, destroying villages & homes, wrecking fragile infrastructure (railroads, bridges, power lines, etc) , and causing severe emotional and financial damage to some of the most vulnerable communities across many parts of the island.
Our organisation AASHA is a social enterprise based in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka focussing on the areas of education, conservation and healthcare. We aim to raise funds though our network of partners, friends, participants, employees, alumni and the wider global community, to help those suffering the most.
Through our local knowhow and network, we intend to directly support the families affected in Badulla District, specifically in the regions of Uva Paranagama, Welimada and Mahiyanganaya areas. These are some of the most severely affected areas in the country with some of the highest levels of damage caused by landslides and flooding.
All funds will be used to support families with:
- Dry rations
- Basic health and medicine, hygiene items for women and children
- Essential clothing and blankets
- Educational support for children
We are working directly with the Divisional Secretariats that represent the local government in these areas to identify the most affected families in the region. We plan to personally and physically deliver all items bought from the funds raised directly to the communities and families most in need in these regions. This will ensure there is no leakage and 100% of the benefit goes directly to the most affected communities.
We plead with you to open your hearts and give back to desperate communities in need. No amount is too little, every drop counts. The need is NOW and the faster we can raise a meaningful sum, the faster we can deploy the aid and relief items.
Thank you,
Amit Sondhi
