Help Tho Become a Citizen
Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Tho Reh and I would like to ask for your support in becoming a US citizen. This is so important to me because my family's life was forever changed when citizenship was taken away from us: 10 years before I was born, the Burmese army persecuted my people group and my parents were forced to abandon their lives as farmers and flee Burma. I grew up in a Karenni refugee camp in the remote jungles of western Thailand, but as a child it was all that I knew. Living without electricity in a small bamboo hut, my family of 6 was considered stateless and lacked the rights to healthcare, employment, and citizenship.
My family was relocated to an apartment complex in East Charlotte when I was 10. Since then life has been up and down and there have been some tough moments, but one thing is that I have definitely experienced some great parts of the "American Dream."
I was given the opportunity to pick a career that I wanted, given the chance to work my hardest at it, and then ultimately experience the result of my hard work. Specifically, I studied to become a mechanic and I graduated from the Nascar Technical Institute (NTI) in 2018. I started working part time with Woodies Auto Service while still at NTI and after graduating I was promoted to full time. 2 years later I am still a member of the Woodies family and am blessed to be working at the same shop and with the same team that gave me a chance.
The citizenship application costs just over $700 dollars, but with helping my mom pay the bills and continuing to pay off my school loans, that money is not available. On top of that, in a couple of months the fee for the application had the potential to double to over $1400.
By contributing, you will help give me the opportunity to fulfill my life dream of becoming a US citizen and experience the rights and freedom that make this country so great. Having the right to vote and have my voice heard, have a passport and travel outside the country, and most importantly, live a meaningful life without the fear that my citizenship will be taken away are rights that I only could have dreamt of as a child and will truly life change my future.
Thank you for your consideration.
