Help Theresa Serve Hope with Hot Meals

Hi, my name is Theresa, and I’m a student and community member here in Kansas City. A few years ago, I experienced homelessness firsthand—I was living out of my car and struggling with food insecurity. That experience changed me. It opened my eyes to how close any of us can come to falling through the cracks, and how powerful a single warm meal can be when you're at your lowest.

This year, for my birthday on July 9th, I want to give back to the community that shaped me. Instead of gifts or celebrations, I’m launching a fundraiser to feed our local homeless and hungry neighbors, serving hot pozole, a traditional and comforting meal that I grew up with. This is more than a meal—it's nourishment, dignity, and a reminder that someone cares.

I’m raising funds to host a community food event this summer where we’ll serve fresh, hot bowls of pozole to as many people in need as possible. The event will take place in Kansas City and will be open to anyone experiencing homelessness or food insecurity.

Your donation will directly help cover:

Food Supplies: Fresh ingredients for the pozole (meat, hominy, spices, garnishes, bowls, utensils, etc.)

Transportation: Getting the food and volunteers to and from the event safely.

Advertising/Outreach: Flyers, social media ads, and community posters to spread the word to those who need it most.

I’m also reaching out to local leaders, including the state senators, to support and uplift this initiative. Every dollar you give goes right back into our community. If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign or volunteering the day of the event would mean the world.
