Help The Workshop PDX Thrive in Downtown Portland
$22,896 raised of
The Workshop PDX is helping transform downtown Portland, and we want to stay in place as we develop the Workshop PDX into a lasting community project. This requires funds to cover operating costs such as rent, utilities, insurance facilitator pay, and art supplies.
The Workshop PDX was curated as a Creative 3rd Space for black and brown people but invites everyone. Through its community partnership, the Workshop offers leadership and art classes for teens during the summer and on weekends. Other community partnerships have provided free movie and game nights, targeting the working poor, the LGBTQIA+ community, and those in the disability community. The Workshop's Downtown Portland location has made it a convenient third space for the unhoused and sheltered communities to reunite with their artistic sides.
The Workshop creates a warm, welcoming environment that encourages storytelling, art-making, and a sense of belonging. In addition to the creative spark the Workshop provides, it has also served as a space of healing for those looking to share their story. Andru Morgan, the facilitator of the space, draws on his past as a chaplain to offer a qualified listening ear. Morgan also began painting after his mother's COVID-19 death and uses abstract art to share his mother's story and the story of his grief. Andru Morgan has a heart for downtown Portland and believes that the Workshop has proven to be the perfect addition to the community.
Thank you for helping us create an actual third space for those who need it most.
