Help the Varet Street Alley Cats

Tax deductible
Hi All! I have been noticing several cats that are fed on a 6th-story fire escape across the street from me for the past couple of years. I never gave it much thought (I assumed that the cats lived in the building), until recently, when I started watching them more closely, and noticed they never went inside. Naturally, I became concerned, especially after I circled the block and realized that the cats are TRAPPED in some sort of alley back there - there are no exists for them to leave the confines of the alley in which they've spent their entire lives. There is no way for them to access the street, and sadly, this alley does not even get sunlight - these cats have never once laid in the direct sun, as normal cats are wont to do!

Naturally, I had to find out how to help. I ran into the feeder of the cats when I went to place a poster in the building lobby (what luck!). The backstory is, this feeder and his mom have been feeding the cats (there are currently 4) on their 6th story fire escape for the last 5 years or so. He said there used to be more cats (they died), and that he *thinks* the cats have access to the basement (where I guess they sleep? I hope....given that it's 14 degrees outside). The cats are unfortunately NOT spayed or neutered (which is where we come in), and definitely need a trip to the vet (one kitty has a large scar on her/his head/neck).

Our plan is to trap the cats this coming Saturday, and have them all vetted/neutered/spayed on Monday or Tuesday of next week! They will stay with fosters until we can assess whether or not they are social, and we will take the next steps from there.

Any small donation helps, and anything leftover will go towards all of the other cats currently in need! Thank you so much!
