Help the Truesdell family move forward and begin healing

My name is Caitlyn Truesdell and I’m asking for your help. My husband was brutally attacked in my grandmother’s home by a family member on Easter Sunday in front of our children and other extended family. I’m trying to raise money for the therapy/counseling our children now require, a security system for our home, wages lost from this week, as well as the wages that we will lose while we seek justice for my husband. This attack was unprovoked and though my husband’s injuries will heal quickly, the mental and emotional damage done to our children will NOT.

Thanks to his military and combat experience, my husband was able to keep his wits about him during this attack. His ability to remain level headed when threatened had enabled him to neutralize the attacker without ever hitting him back which meant his attacker would be charged with assault but my husband would not because he didn’t assault his attacker in return.

Thankfully our baby is too young to remember this traumatic event but her older brother and sister are heartbroken. They now have nightmares of a person they loved, someone that should have made them feel safe but instead attacked their dad before their eyes. I’ve been in therapy myself for several years and my brother hasn’t spoken to this man for over 13 years because of his volatile and unpredictable nature.

Our family was struggling financially before this incident and had used any financial solutions we had at our disposal prior to this awful situation. As a result we have to let go of our pride and ask for help from you, our family and community members, so that we can ensure our children get the help they need as well as other services/systems that will help them to feel safe again as they start the long and difficult healing process.

This experience has taught all of us that, not all family are blood and not all blood are family. Thank you for any and all support that has been offered to our family during this nerve racking time in our lives.
