Katy and her husband Aaron have lived in Clinton since 2011. They chose this town as the place to start their family and their two children, Ava (8) and Andrew (6) have lived here their entire lives.
Ava has had many medical challenges since she was born requiring ongoing surgeries and hospitalizations. At only eight years old she has been diagnosed with cell mediated immunodeficiency, severe persistent asthma, GERD, PTSD, and Anxiety. In August, Avas service dog was attacked by a neighbor’s German Shepard. This was traumatic for their family and vet bills added to their finical hardship.Because of her life long critical illness, Ava qualified to receive a Make-A-Wish in 2017 which wouldn’t have been possible without the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department and Chip’s Pub helping her wish come true. Katy and I have bonded and become extremely close friends as we navigate motherhood to medically complex children. She volunteers with Make-A-Wish and was a huge part of my sons wish coming true.
Katys husband also has an illness of severe immunodeficiency and many other medical challenges. In November Aaron had a major heart attack requiring emergency intervention and hospitalization. He was just given the ok to be able to return to work on light duty with reduced hours. I can tell you from experience how difficult it is to live a life of uncertainty of when the next debilitating medical crisis will strike. The COVID 19 Pandemic has been incredibly difficult on this family, as it has been for the rest of the world. They have lived in isolation and suffered the loss of income. Ava and Andrew just received their second COVID vaccinations and just as they felt they were going to be able to get back to our lives, the omicron variant came and all of the family’s specialists have recommended full isolations for the immediate future. This means that although Katy has been applying for jobs she must put that on hold to stay home with her children.
Katy and her family have received extremely difficult news that their home will be put up for auction if they can not pay off back property taxes by January 14, 2022. Katy has reached out to all of her town representatives to ask for an extension on this deadline and has been repeatedly told no to an extension and the original tax bill has gone from $2,858.01 to $5,564.97. We are working hard to figure out what options they may have to be able to keep their home.
