Help The Quilters Create More Quilts for Foster Kids
Donation protected
Have you seen the Netflix documentary, “The Quilters?” It’s a very heartwarming story of men who are serving time and how they created a team (which is run like a not for profit business) that create and make quilts (blankets) for children living in foster care. They create the personalized quilts and they are delivered to the foster kids for their birthdays. These gentlemen truly exemplify the true meaning of paying it forward. They are artists and great craftsmen, they mentor and teach their peers their trades. The team relies on donations of all things quilting such as fabric, thread, batting, and even their sewing machines.
I was so moved by what these gentlemen are accomplishing that I watched the documentary a second time and took notes about what supplies were old and in need of replacement, etc. I packed a box with new supplies such as sewing machine needles, colored thread, batting, straight pins, quilting pencils, etc. A nice box of new sewing things that cost me $100.00. The feeling of helping a very worthwhile effort has been priceless. I know The Quilters received the box because they sent a very kind, handmade, thank you card (pictures attached),
So I truly can’t stop thinking of other ways to help and this is what brought me to the Go Fund Me community. Hoping that we can raise enough money to purchase the much needed sewing machine(s) to contribute to this very worthwhile effort.
My starting point is, I hope, realistic, $4000.00. This would enable the purchase of one really good machine and an extended warranty. There are at least 6 machines in use and all of them have seen better days. So if we raise more, fantastic. We will buy more machines.
If you have not seen the documentary yet, I encourage you to watch this one very impactful episode of good men who find themselves in a difficult situation and have chosen to pay it forward to kids in need. As of the airing of the documentary, they have made and donated more than 2,000 quilts.
Update: I hosted a garage and bake sale on Saturday. It was lightly attended in the early am. Very hot on the east coast this summer. 50% of my proceeds or 105.00 are donated tonight.
Thanks so much for your consideration. Take Good Care.
