I’m writing on behalf of the Prosby family, who are facing an urgent and overwhelming crisis after a devastating fire during a blizzard destroyed their home. Despite the dangerous conditions, the entire family, including their three dogs, made it out safely. Although the fire started in the garage, the damage was so extensive that the house must be rebuilt from the studs, leaving them displaced for an estimated 12 months with no home to return to. This disaster struck just months after Doug experienced a layoff in August, 2025. He had only recently returned to work, with limited vacation time available, when the fire upended their lives. The Prosbys are now living in a hotel while searching for long‑term housing, trying to keep life steady for their children in the midst of sudden upheaval. The hotel environment also became too stressful for their dogs, forcing a painful temporary separation that has deeply affected the kids. On top of the immediate and long‑term financial strain—temporary housing, transportation challenges after losing their vehicle, replacing essentials, and navigating a lengthy insurance process—the family is also facing counseling needs and emotional support costs. All of these appointments, as well as insurance meetings, require time away from work and expenses that fall outside insurance coverage. These expenses, along with many other uncovered necessities, add another layer of stress during an already overwhelming year‑long displacement. They never expected to be in a position to ask for help but are in a tough spot. Any support will help the Prosby family secure stable housing, access the counseling and resources they need, reunite with their dogs, and begin the long process of rebuilding their home and restoring a sense of safety.
