Help the Philpot family grow!

Hello everyone! My name is Tiffany Allen-White and I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my big sister, Cicely Philpot and my brother-in-love Shawn Philpot. 

This September, Cicely and Shawn will make it to their 10th year wedding anniversary! Over the years I have seen them overcome seemingly insurmountable odds while maintaining faith, joy and optimism. They are amazing professionals who give their time, talents and treasures to their community and others wholeheartedly. 

In 2013, they decided to actively begin starting a family. When over a year went by and they still hadn’t conceived, they became concerned. After months of testing, Shawn was diagnosed with unexplained male infertility (azoospermia). The only way that they will be able to conceive is through in vitro fertilization (IVF) using donor sperm. 

Here is a glimpse of the challenging path that the Philpots have experienced on their journey towards parenthood: 

-2 major surgeries (one for each of them),
-Over $15,000 in medical costs, including two IUI procedures (intra-uterine insemination) with donor sperm,
-6 doctors between 4 medical facilities- one that is out-of-state, 
-Multiple grant applications with no success of selection,
-Tons of medications, vitamins, and supplements, 
-Too many doctors’ appointments, hours of researching family options, and tears of frustration and heartbreak to count.

A big ray of hope came this June, when they discovered that Shawn’s new job offers medical insurance that covers a portion of ART procedures- an extremely rare benefit that most employers don’t provide. This benefit will reduce their out-of-pocket costs by about $10,000 (from approx.. $25,000). Over the past 7 years it seemed impossible for them to come up with that kind of money without getting into a level of debt that they simply cannot manage. With this major benefit, the possibility of becoming parents finally feels within reach!

While they continue to attempt to reach their goal for their family, they still are hoping to bring awareness to the issues surrounding infertility and encourage others who are in similar situations that they are not alone in this long, arduous journey towards parenthood.
