Hi Friends! In case you don't know us in real life, we are a mom and daughter duo from San Marcos, CA. Megan is a stylist who works from home and Felice is a hospice nurse and minister at our church.
If you're like us, you've been wondering how you can help those who are fleeing the civil war in Syria. But, we also wondered: Who do we give to? How can we create change for such a huge tragedy across the world? All our prayers and contemplation led us to finding a real solution!
Syrian Community Network - San Diego is a local non-profit organization here in San Diego that is helping a couple hundred refugee families get settled here in San Diego. (See more about SCN here .) After applying to sponsor a family, we were matched with the beautiful Orabi Family. They've been here since September 1, 2016 and are trying to make their East County apartment feel like home after fleeing Syria and living in Jordan for three years.
This GoFundMe account is now focused on raising funds to pay their monthly travel loan that must be paid back that the government loaned them (as they do all refugees) to fly to San Diego and start their new life. This bill is $6,450, but is only $134 a month luckily!
We are so grateful for any amount you want to give to help this family create a new life in San Diego and to ease their stress of paying this bill every month.
We will be removing the funds each month and paying back their travel loan directly to IRC for them. We communicate with them through text message, phone calls, and visits. They are our friends and the five kids consider Felice their "American Grandma" :)
