I am a friend of a family I met who really needs and deserves help. The family includes a mother and five children, and they are on the edge of homelessness through no fault of their own and not without doing everything for themselves that is possible.

Mrs. Nguyen works as a nail technician and is unable to make more than $2500 per month in warm months. Her income reduces by 20% in cold months when women stopped getting pedicures. Rent, utilities, car insurance, and telephone service cost $2,700/month. Food costs are met through SNAP and assistance from The Salvation Army food pantry

Mrs. Nguyen's ability to earn more income is stifled by the necessity to take her children to work and pick them up. Also, she has not been able to develop a regular clientele because her English is limited. Thus, she is income dependent on walk-in clients only.

One of Mrs. Nguyen’s sons contributes to the family income by working at a fast food restaurant. Unfortunately, road construction near his restaurant has reduced the restaurant’s business and subsequently the son’s work hours.

With the help of friends and family, the Nguyen family has applied for available rent assistance programs without success. Recently, they missed getting Section 8 housing because they didn’t understand the process and missed a critical deadline.

The Nguyen family faced additional financial hardship when Mrs. Nguyen's place of employment closed for three weeks, leaving her with no income.

There is relief in the future when the second son is old enough to work. In the meantime I am asking you to help me raise $500/month for six months which will enable the family to stay in their rented house and the children to stay in their same school.
