Help The Myers Family Adopt their Own Twins

Donation protected

Tammy and Jordan Myers welcomed their babies, Eames & Ellison, to the world via gestational carrier in January of 2021, but it has not been as magical as they had hoped.  While they expected sleepless nights with the birth of babies, they didn’t realize their insomnia would be caused by the emotional and financial stress of an uphill legal battle for the legal rights to their biological babies.

Over the past 7 years, my family has grown very close to the Myers.  Tammy is a very dear and close friend, and we have become inseparable over the years.  6 years ago, our family watched on the sidelines as Tammy battled an aggressive form of breast cancer. She faced 18 rounds of chemotherapy, 28 rounds of radiation, and more surgeries and complications than any of us could ever count. Due to the grace of god she made it through her cancer and is still here for everyone who loves her, but that came at a cost sadly. This biggest being that she would not be able to carry another child due to her cancer type.  To see Tammy go through so much with her diagnosis along with the financial and emotional turmoil that came with it was just heartbreaking.

Tammy’s strength and positivity pushed her through those very difficult years of treatment, and she inspired so many women along the way even creating a campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer among young women and pushed for early detection measures for young women (Forgotten Fighters). Within her own battle, she never gave up and continued to fight through all the pain and heartache.  She was a true SURVIVOR!  She continued her fight in hopes of extending their family one day.  Even though it felt like a distant dream, she was determined to make it happen.  Eventually, Tammy and her family were given a glimmer of hope they had been waiting for since her cancer diagnosis.  The most precious gift that anyone could give.  A kind and nurturing woman, Lauren, offered to carry their embryos.  They shared their news with us, and we learned they were expecting twin miracles!  It seemed our besties were finally getting their miracle and we couldn’t have been happier for them.

However it seems they are facing yet another uphill battle–now because the state of Michigan has not kept up with the technological advances in fertility. In short: Michigan has a very outdated surrogacy law and because of it, this family is being forced to fully adopt their biological babies. Throughout this entire process they have allowed the public in and shared their painful story because they wanted to bring awareness to this outdated law and the in the injustices it has placed upon their family, in hopes that it will push Michigan lawmakers to update the surrogacy laws so NO other family has to face what they are facing now.

They do not tell many people this, but they went into the gestational carrier process with a mound of debt from Tammy's cancer and ongoing medical care and they have acquired even more due to associated medical and legal fees required to navigate the gestational carrier/surrogacy process. Although they would never ask for help themselves, I feel it is unfair that they have been hit financially with cancer debt, medical bills from this process, and now this extra legal process, just to become the legal parents of their biological children. All because Tammy was unfortunate enough to have been diagnosed with cancer at a young age in the state of Michigan.

So many people have been asking how they can help. Although neither Tammy or Jordan would ever ask for help themselves I know the weight of the debt they have already acquired with this entire process and the expenses they are still facing with the adoption are weighing very heavily on Tammy and Jordan's shoulders. That's where we come in! Let’s help take the financial burden off this family from years of unforeseen medical and legal expenses so they can focus on what is most important–BEING TOGETHER AS A FAMILY OF 5!
