Hello, and thank you for taking a moment to read and support this fundraiser. We share this with a heavy but hopeful heart on behalf of the precious Meira family.

Originally from Brazil, they have been part of our Canadian community for the past 9 years, working hard to build a safe and honest life here in Ottawa. They followed every step asked of them: working, paying taxes, raising their children, and investing everything they had into securing their permanent residency.

Two weeks ago, their world was shaken. They received a notice from Immigration informing them that they must leave Canada. This devastating news came after they discovered that the legal representative they trusted and paid thousands of dollars to had disappeared with their money and never worked on their case. Because of this, they lost their status and are now forced to start from zero, facing deportation through no fault of their own.

The Meiras have three daughters, including 8-year-old Hanna, who was born here and knows no other home. Canada is where she has grown up, gone to school, made friends, and dreamed about her future.

As a community of believers and friends, we are standing together to fight for this family, to give them a fair chance at the life they have worked so hard to build. A new lawyer is already working on their case, but the legal fees are far beyond their reach after all they have already lost. Besides, since they cannot work until a new work permit is possibly issued, they need funds to cover for their living expenses while waiting for the results of their case.

We are raising $25,000 CAD to cover urgent legal and immigration costs and to help keep this family in Canada with a minimum living standard while waiting for the results of their case.

The Meira family is hopeful, resilient, and deeply hardworking. They have given so much to this community, and they truly deserve the opportunity to stay.
