Help The Martin's Keep Their House

Who We Are:

The Martin Family(Chevy, Jake and Jonah), residents of 165 Moffitt street for over 32 years. We've lived at the address my whole life, along with my previous service dog, Daisy, and my current dog, Captain.

My mother is 71 years old, a lesbian, a former educator, and a 4x cancer survivor(Breast, Lung, Breast, Rectal) who has never had the opportunity to own a home and has never believed it possible because of the profession she chose.

I was assaulted at age 16 and left with a traumatic brain injury and PTSD. With the help of my first service dog, Daisy, I was able to make great progress towards recovery, and learned how to work with dogs. I'm well liked in my community and have managed to make friends at the local dog parks who appreciate my presence and kindness, and respect my knowledge and experience, especially when it comes to the dogs.

My brother was teaching in Korea until late last year, and was coming back to the states to work in a tourist industry before the pandemic hit. Due to the shut down, and the fact that my mom is at high risk of death if she contracts COVID-19 (she had half of her left lung removed due to cancer), he has been sheltering in place at home.

What's happening:

Our landlord has decided to sell our house, the only home I've ever known, and we are short about 1/3 of the resources needed to make a purchase.

There are resources in the city for first time buyers, and also for LGBT elders like my mom, but without the last stretch, they won't matter.

I've been nervous about asking for help because I know we are in a pandemic and there are so many people having a hard time, but at this point I don't know what else to do.

How The Money Helps:

The 350k will provide for a portion of the down payment and requisite fees and taxes. It's a rough number, and any remaining funds will be split amongst local canine rescue organizations including Muttville, NorCal Weimaraner Rescue, and The Milo Foundation.

My Gratitude:

My mother has given so much to me; and while I can, and have, taken care of her the best I can, I've never been able to ensure she won't have to worry about a roof over her head. If anyone can help make this happen, it would be appreciated beyond what words can say.

Thank you for considering this cause, and if you've made it this far, maybe you're willing to go a little further. Donate or share with people you know, and may you stay safe in these trying times.
