Help the Markhams Bridge the Gap to Stability
Donation protected
After two years of unimaginable hardship, the Markham family is finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel—but they need our help to reach it. In 2023, Darrell Markham was diagnosed with cancer and lost his job soon after. He and his wife, Leslee, along with our beloved Nana, have spent the past year focused on surviving—physically, emotionally, and financially. Darrell has since completed his daily radiation and chemotherapy rounds and is officially cancer-free. The family is deeply grateful for this milestone, but the journey to recovery isn’t over.
While Darrell is on track to begin a new job in Southern California this summer, it’s over 300 miles from their home in Mariposa. It’s the only opportunity he’s been able to secure, and it requires temporary housing and travel expenses they simply can’t afford. Leslee has been holding the family together as the sole provider, while also managing Nana’s serious medical needs, which involve long, frequent drives to doctors two hours away. To survive, they’ve depleted their retirement savings and sold off nearly all they could.
Right now, the Markhams are at a critical turning point. With Darrell’s new job on the horizon, there’s hope—but unpaid mortgage and utility bills are mounting, and they just need a bit of financial help to carry them through these final months. By the end of summer, they expect to be back on their feet. Until then, your generosity can make all the difference—keeping a roof over their heads, the lights on, and their family afloat during this transitional time.
If you’ve ever known the heartbreak of illness or the uncertainty of financial instability, you know how much it means to feel supported. Please consider donating to help the Markhams bridge this final gap and begin the next chapter with the dignity and stability they’ve fought so hard to regain. Every bit of help—big or small—moves them closer to home.
