In 2023, Darrell Markham was diagnosed with cancer and lost his job soon after. He and his wife, Leslee, along with our beloved Nana, have spent the past year focused on surviving—physically, emotionally, and financially. Darrell has since completed his daily radiation and chemotherapy rounds and is officially cancer-free. The family is deeply grateful for this milestone, but the journey to recovery isn’t over.

It’s the only opportunity he’s been able to secure, and it requires temporary housing and travel expenses they simply can’t afford. Leslee has been holding the family together as the sole provider, while also managing Nana’s serious medical needs, which involve long, frequent drives to doctors two hours away. To survive, they’ve depleted their retirement savings and sold off nearly all they could.
