Help the Longmont VFW Rebuild their Post!

I am the Jr. Vice Commander of the VFW Post 2601 in Longmont, Colorado. We recently moved into a unit to help restore our presence in the community after many years of not having a Post home.

 

Our Post leadership, many years ago, were swindled out of all their funds in a Ponzi scheme. Sadly, they had to sell their building just to cover creditors and costs. Those leaders have since left Post 2601. Since 2016, the VFW in Longmont was adrift without a base of operations or a place to meet. Other social clubs have lent a hand, but we were still unable to serve the community or provide veterans with what they need to the best of our ability.

 

After a long search, we are now the proud owners of a unit for our base of operations! However, as a result of the long hiatus and loss of revenues, we are facing a perilous financial uphill to remodel this space. We would LOVE to remake this Post into a modern, family-friendly, open, bright space for all veterans to feel safe and heard. We would love to make this space into a vibrant social club that serves Longmont for many years to come.

 

We have a LOT of work to do: we would need to rebuild many parts of the space to build a bar, game room, office, well-equipped kitchen, and social spaces for meetings, parties, recreational events, our Healing Warriors program, and classes. That includes demolition, painting, building shelving, combining the two meeting rooms with doors instead of a wall, cooling equipment, HVAC, electrical fixes for our signage, flag illumination and new fixtures, fire suppression, and security alarms.

 

PLEASE HELP! We have very little money but a lot of heart and hands willing to get down and dirty to revitalize the VFW for a new Longmont and for a generation of younger vets. The National VFW HQ has given very little in financial support or direction, but we understand every Post has to secure their own future.
