Help the Krotov Family get settled in the US
Hi friends, about a month ago, Elin and I sponsored a family of four Ukrainian refugees to resettle in the US through the new Uniting for Ukraine program. That sponsorship has been approved and we are looking forward to welcoming the Krotov family to Denver at the end of next week.
The Krotov family was lucky to escape the Russian siege of Mariupol, which destroyed their home, their city and nearly everything they owned. They are resilient and ready to rebuild their life in the US but will be starting from scratch. As such they will greatly benefit from any initial help they can receive to make the transition to finding permanent housing, transportation, work and schools easier.
Previous government led programs through the State Department and refugee resettlement organizations provided initial aid to arriving families, but being a new program based on individual sponsorship, it is not clear what aid will be available for families sponsored by individuals through Uniting for Ukraine. As such we request your help in raising initial funds to welcome the Krotov family to the US. We have set a goal to provide enough money for any essentials the family might need in their first few months in the US. We greatly appreciate any aid you can provide.
How we plan on spending the funds
- Money raised will be donated directly to new family US bank account when it is opened.
- Funds are prioritized for housing and means of transportation for the family. Housing is exceptionally expensive in the Denver Metro Area, and it could be a while before the family is given permission to work, so we are ultimately trying to build a crowd funded social safety net.
- Any excess funds will be put toward sponsoring additional family members currently displaced after the destruction of Mariupol, and providing plane tickets to US. Any remaining excess will be put toward English language education.
