Help The Kingfisher Collective get started!!

Hi folks!

The newly formed Kingfisher Collective (61 Main Street, Brattleboro) needs your help to get through our first winter.

What we’re asking for:

Our landlord has been extremely kind and allowed us to occupy this space at a very reasonable rate, but even so, we’ve only just begun. Despite the excitement everyone has expressed upon entering our space, we still have a ways to go before we have enough members and a full enough event calendar to become a self-sustaining organization. Up until now, I have paid the rent out of my personal income, but that has become no longer sustainable.
We’re seeking enough to pay our rent and utilities through the quiet months of January-April, so that we can focus on building and growing, without worrying about losing the space.

Who we are:

What began as a pop-up Photo Booth to continue my Brattleboro Faces Project has, in the last couple of months, evolved and grown into something much more, something we call The Kingfisher Collective. The Kingfisher Collective is comprised of myself (Ezra Distler) and a growing list of local and regional artists, crafters, herbalists, and small-scale entrepreneurs. There are prolific artists without a brick-and-mortar venue to showcase their work, emerging jewelers and crafters, herbalists eager to share their deeply held passion for the plants they work with, and individuals keen on imparting their skills and fostering connections in the community we all cherish. We’ve united in a spirit of excitement and optimism for the potential of having a Main Street storefront; a dedicated space for exhibiting our creative energies within our community.
Beyond offering a vibrant platform for emerging artists to display and sell their work, the location serves as a versatile venue for activities such as workshops (fire cider making in January!!), seasonal markets, pop-up food events, clothing swaps, live performances, and anything else our members and community can dream up.

So far, we’ve hosted a few remarkable markets, some lovely live music, a delightful clothing swap night, and lots of days open as a shop for the public to explore and support our members.

What does this collective look like in the future?

We hope to create a multifaceted space for the downtown community to explore up-and-coming artists, hear music in an intimate venue, learn all sorts of things, and connect with each other.
We’re big fans of the world of traditional skills, and we’re looking forward to both sharing that knowledge with others in an accessible space as well as growing our own skills and knowledge by inviting in teachers of all sorts of different disciplines from all sorts of backgrounds. We plan on having a full calendar of events with something for everyone, and we’re well on our way to making that happen.

In short, we’re here to support each other, to learn and grow as artists and individuals, and to connect and build community. As we grow, we will establish a membership structure that accommodates established artists and first-time makers alike, so that anyone can have the experience of knowing their work can be seen and supported, right in a Main Street location.

We’ve already started something here that feels somehow different and special; it’s clear that we’re on the verge of creating something truly wonderful.
With your help, we can make this dream a reality!
❤️❤️❤️

Stretch Goals: Having a space is one thing, but to really settle in and make the most of it, we’ll need to put some work into it. We have the people power, but we’ll need funds as well! If we surpass our initial goal we’ll be able to approach things like signage, interior painting, building more retail display space to showcase our members work, various spatial improvements, and maybe getting a handful of cozy floor cushions for our sweet little concert sessions.

We are grateful for donations of any size, but if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this to your social media or simply telling your people about it in person.
The first 48 hours of a crowdfunding campaign are crucial to its success, so let’s make it happen!

Thank you!!
