Give Zakat to kids of Mygoma Orphanage in Sudan

Donation protected
Dear Reader,

This gofundme will be used for raising money/zakaat for a Sudanese orphanage that are struggling to manage with very limited resources, especially during the global pandemic. Apart from this, the inflation and economy right now is putting much more financial strain on Sudanese citizens. Mygoma is a part of three sister orphanages in Sudan. Each orphanage hosts kids in a certain age group, this one being home to the youngest. Due to the culture and laws in Sudan, children born out of wedlock are not accepted and their mothers are seen as pariahs. The mothers potentially risk their lives raising their child and often many are given away or left behind, some of whom are discovered.

Mygoma was built in 1961 following the high number of newborns found abandoned on streets and behind buildings. Approximately 500 babies a year are brought in, but due to their state of shock and insufficient care usually 100-150 survive infancy. They are left to fall ill and pass away by no fault of their own, though many can and will survive if they get the right medical treatment. Mygoma wholeheartedly strives to raise and provide shelter for the children but lacks proper government funding to grant enough resources to do so.

Having been to Mygoma a few times in the past, I saw first hand the conditions that kids were having to live in.  Although naturally they were all happy, cheerful and resilient, but they were doing all it takes to survive for the time being. One of the kids in particular, Alaa, was generous enough to give me some of her candy and I still have her wrinkly golden candy wrapper as reminder of my visit.

Your donation will help in providing the immediate needs of children like Alaa, needs which Mygoma is not able to meet due to the extreme economic inflation. The staff of surrogate mothers and caregivers are working very hard to make do with what they have but there will always be more needs. With some help, the staff can gain access to basic necessities and hopefully medicine and medical equipment. This is really just the tip of the iceberg and that says a lot about what they are having to live with. By choosing to donate, you can help Mygoma's children come closer to thriving, not just surviving.

As a Sudani living in Canada, I have the ability to receive and safely send money back home. I have a designated close friend in Sudan, as well as volunteers who will use the money raised to purchase and deliver necessities such as soap, diapers, clothing, socks, shoes, bed sheets, and other baby products. Although we cannot address all of their needs, the small things really matter and will allow it to be easier on the staff and as a result on the kids. The money will be used to purchase medicine and any urgent needs. Some of the funds will also be going to the older kids in the other two orphanages, many of whom have disabilities with little means of mobility. We will do our best to send or buy them wheelchairs and other assistive equipment as well.

Most importantly, this fundraiser will leave Mygoma with something to fall back on so they can be free of a constant state of scarcity.

I will be accepting additional clothing items and assistive equipment donations directly. I am currently working on reaching out to a non-profit organization run by Sudanis called Sadagaat USA to see how we can send the heavier resources straight there as well.

Please keep in mind the dollar is worth 316 Sudanese pounds so any amount TRULY helps. If you are fasting this Ramadan this can be your Zakaat. Please share as well!

Thank you.
