Hello everyone,
We have two big needs coming up that we would love to ask you to be a part of:
1. Adopting a child
2. Buying a home in Turkey
1. Adopting a child
We are adopting! We have been pursuing adoption for the past 2 years in Turkey but have recently discovered that it is not possible for us. With this news, the Lord has opened up the door to adopt a child from Bulgaria (which borders Turkey)! We are working with Lifeline Childrens Services (https://lifelinechild.org/) which is an amazing company when it comes to ex-pats adopting. We will most likely have a couple of years before we can bring the child into our home but we are excited for the journey ahead! There are lots of reasons we feel the Lord leading us to adopt:
- Desire
-- First, Staci and I have wanted to have a bigger family since we were married. While having kids biologically is an option for us, the Lord has really lead us to consider those who do not have a family.
-- Our hearts break to think of the children who don’t know the love of a mom and dad.
-- We have had close friends and family members adopt and think it’s one of the most wonderful things to watch their families grow.
- The need
-- The need is overwhelming. "According to UNICEF, almost 10,000 children become orphans every day. According to internationally accepted figures, there are at least 140 million orphans in the world." “Bulgaria has the highest orphan rate in Europe and the fastest declining population in the world.” - One heart Bulgaira
- God's Word
-- Also, God’s word has continually brought us back to God’s heart for the fatherless:
James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
James 2:15-16 “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?”
Hosea 14:3 “For in You the fatherless find compassion.”
Isaiah 1:17 “Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”
With all of this, we feel God asking us to welcome an orphan into our family, to show them unconditional love, and to share the love of the Father with them.
The total cost of the adoption is 40k from start to finish.
2. Buying a home in Turkey
Also, we are raising money to buy a home in Turkey. We are living in the East of our country and love it here in our city. We feel this is where the Lord wants us. There are many reasons we feel like the Lord is calling us to own a home:
Putting down roots:
First, we really want to stay long term in our city. Owning a home gives us the ability to make a place home and not just be in temporary housing. The advice we have received from veterans in our country: Those who feel comfortable in their homes are the ones who thrive in the long run.
Permanent residence visa:
Owning a home improves our opportunity to be granted permanent residence visas in Turkey (instead of just yearly applications like we have now)
Hosting:
Staci and I also really love to host and have locals in our home. In our current rental, we are not able to have many groups over because of the noise level for the neighbors below us. Owning a home would give us the ability to have a place where we would not have to worry about the noise.
Renting vs Buying:
Why not just find a different rental? In our current city, rentals are almost impossible to find. We have been looking for the past 2 years for other options but no good options have become available. In contrast, there are hundreds of houses for sale in our city - with numerous options that completely fit what we are looking for.
More room for our growing family:
Our family is growing! With the addition of an adopted child, getting into a house where we can see ourselves thriving is a big desire for us.
To get a home that would completely fit our specifications would cost us $65,000.
We would love it if you could pray about joining us financially in this journey.
The total amounts are:
$40,000 for adoption
$65,000 for a home in Turkey
$-30,000 (that we have saved)
Total Need: $75,000
We would love it if you could help us get all the way to our goal!
