Help the Hoopes Family

Hi, my name is Joyce and I'm fundraising to help my mom, Pok Hoopes, with medical bills, lost wages, and funeral costs. On April 7th, 2022, my dad, Robert Hoopes, had a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. He was in the ICU at Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO until April 10th when he was airlifted to University Hospital in Aurora, CO. He was in the cardiac ICU until he passed away on April 30th. My dad was a pretty healthy guy and so all of this was a surprise to my family. He was getting better in the ICU, and there were even talks of transferring him to a rehabilitation facility in Colorado Springs. However, his heart was just too weak to go on. We are devastated at the loss of Robert. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Anyone who knew Robert was familiar with his love for tanks, which is why he joined the US Army in 1978. He served our country until 1992. While he was in the Army, he was deployed to South Korea where he met Pok. He knew from the moment he saw her that he was going to marry her, and six months later they were married. They were happily married for 42 years. It's not every day you meet your soulmate. I was blessed to witness their love and commitment to each other and to family.

Unfortunately, my dad didn't leave much behind. The big thing he didn't have was life insurance. We are still trying to find out if he had any with his last employer, Sam's Club. During Robert's time in the ICU, my mom and I would visit him at the hospital every day. My mom, Pok, did not work for about a month. She is a hairdresser who works for herself, so when she doesn't work, she doesn't get paid. The medical bills are starting to roll in and their insurance only covers 75%. My dad was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, airlifted by helicopter to Aurora, CO, and stayed in the ICU for about 23 days. You can just imagine how much all of that is going to cost.

With no life insurance and medical bills coming in, my mom needs help. I am currently looking for work because I was let go from my last job during my dad's stay in the ICU, or I would be helping pay for the medical bills. That's why I am trying to raise $50,000 for her. I want to give my mom some peace of mind and stability during these hard times.
