Friends, family, and colleagues, I am so excited for this Los Angeles Marathon fundraising campaign! As many of you know, a few short months ago Lauren and I were blessed with a beautiful little girl, Astrid Olivia. With our family having recently experienced all that comes with pregnancy, delivery, and a newborn, the cause of pregnant homeless women in Los Angeles hits very close to home for us.
The Need
According to the LA Health Department, each year there are over 8,000 women in Los Angeles who are pregnant and homeless. Currently, there are only 70 shelter beds available for these women in crisis. Harvest Home, the organization I am fundraising for, provides 10 of these beds and is looking to more than double that amount by the end of 2020 with a second location.
The Organization - Harvest Home
Earlier this month I had the opportunity to visit Harvest Home’s Venice location where I met members of their team and a few of the women currently being embraced by the Harvest Home community. During my visit, I learned that each woman is provided with a private room, access to free social services, counseling, financial education, GED services, legal services, infant safety courses, job training, and much more. I also learned that these women not only have a home during their pregnancy, but also for several months after their child is born while they recover and prepare for their next step. Clothes, diapers, and other supplies are generously provided by donation and previous Harvest Home graduates for the first year of each child’s life. The goal of Harvest Home is not only to support these women during and after their pregnancy, but also to provide the tools needed to become financially independent.
Having met with members of Harvest Home, I am convinced of two things:
(1) Harvest Home is actively providing life-changing support to the women who need it the most; and
(2) There is a dire need to expand the support available for women who are pregnant and homeless in Los Angeles.
The Ask
DONATE! Donate to help Harvest Home expand its reach and provide more housing and support for pregnant women who are homeless and in crisis. Due to the generosity of Wilshire Skyline , your donation will be matched $1 for $1. Not only will you be making a tax-deductible donation, but it will be going twice as far!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We appreciate your generosity in contributing to such a wonderful organization and the women who need it most.
