My name is Quin Ho, and I am reaching out for support during one of the most challenging times my family has ever faced. My mother, Thanh Bui, and brother, Quintin Ho, have lived in Swannanoa/ Asheville, North Carolina for 22 years, and we lost our cherished childhood home to the devastating floods of Hurricane Helene.
For anyone who knows my mom, you know she is one of the kindest and most caring people in the world. For years, she has worked at the local primary and elementary schools, bringing smiles and laughter to hundreds of children and community members every day. She remembers every student’s name, listens to their stories, and ensures that no one leaves her sight without feeling a little brighter. Her spirit of giving has always been her gift to the community, and now, in this unimaginable time, we are asking for help to give back to her.
For over two decades, our home has been the center of our family’s lives, where we celebrated birthdays, holidays, and countless moments of love and joy. Unfortunately, when Hurricane Helene hit, floodwaters rose up to 26 feet, completely submerging our home. The destruction was unimaginable—three cars were lost, and everything inside was ruined. We now face the harsh reality that our home may need to be rebuilt entirely. We’ve lost everything, from essential household items to irreplaceable family memories. Without flood insurance, we lack the financial resources to recover on our own. My mom and brother are temporarily staying with family out of town, but we desperately need to find a way to rebuild our lives.
At this moment, we are unsure if our home can be saved or if we’ll need to start over entirely. The extent of the damage is severe, and we are waiting on assessments, but the road ahead will be long and costly no matter the outcome.
What Your Support Will Mean to Us:
Every donation will go toward:
- Restoring our home, whether through rebuilding or repairing based on assessments
- Replacing essential items like beds, clothing, and kitchen appliances
- Temporary housing costs while we search for stability
- Replacing our family’s cars, which were completely destroyed in the flood
We are deeply grateful for any contribution—big or small—to help us get back on our feet. Every dollar, every share of our story, and every kind word of encouragement brings us one step closer to making our home livable again. My mom has spent her life caring for others, always with a smile on her face. Now, we are hoping to receive some of that kindness back as we navigate this uncertain and overwhelming journey.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time. ❤️
