My wife Andrea and I have been on a journey to have children for over 5 years now. We went thru fertility treatments to see if that was a possible route for us. We decided instead of going forward with IVF that we would join an adoption agency and try to adopt a local infant from BC. We spent lots of money and time organizing our way through the adoption process through a private agency. About one month after we finally were on the waiting list our agency abruptly closed as a result of gross negligence and mis management. All our time, money and efforts washed away in an instant and all the waiting families scrambled to find another place at only two other available adoption agencies. We decided to take a step back and evaluate our situation. After some deliberation we decided we would go forward with IVF, since the adoption agencies were over capacity and it wasn't look plausible. We did a cycle of IVF at significant cost and unfortunately it failed, for reasons unknown to us and the doctors. This was a devastating blow to our little family and to our mindset of how we would ever have our family that we wanted. After some time, much emotional healing and struggling with limited options, we decided to go back to adoption, which was our first choice over IVF anyway. We signed up with a new agency in the city we live in, we were able to finally get in after, of course, more significant cost, sorting through more paperwork, background checks and the home study.
I am proud to say that we are now an awaiting family with an agency. Once chosen, we will need roughly $25,000 to wrap up the adoption process, fees and lawyers. We have spent all the savings we've had going through this long, hard road the past 5+ years and with this money we would be able to pay our fees and still be financially able to raise our new child. It would mean the world to us to just finally put all this struggle, heartache and longing behind us and just start our family. I couldn't imagine the stress relief and financial burden that would be eased from this help. Money being the thing standing between us and the family we always dreamed of.
Adopting a child is not going to be easy at any point on the journey, but obviously with some financial assistance we would be able to focus our energy on the challenges of being an adoptive parent and less on the financial burden of bringing the baby home.
Thank you all for reading our story,
Daniel and Andrea.
