We would like to start off with gratitude, by saying thank you! Thank you to all the friends, family, and community members who believed in The Hamlett project and supported it. It is because of you that we are nearing our 6th-month of operation.
Together we managed to storm a pandemic, vandalisms, permitting hold-ups, equipment failures, and limited financial resources. Together we have demonstrated a possibility of what it looks like when we come together to support one another economically, socially, and spiritually. We are a beautiful case study and we have heard literally, someone's thesis too.
Despite it all we have continued to serve our community, making amazing new connections and trying to bring joy, laughter, and love to each person who walks through our doors. Why? Well because we believed in our mission and we have kept pushing.
Our mission has never been about us, it's been about the community, creating space, and supporting local entrepreneurs!
The holiday months have proven to be more of a challenge than we anticipated. We have implemented almost every trick in the book to overcome this natural dip in guests and revenue to no avail. To be transparent, we have now found ourselves at a crossroads and the only thing pulling us forward is the mission, the community. We love you and we don’t want to give up. We have come so far and we know this is just the beginning.
However, we are now humbling ourselves to reach out for support.
Our current overhead is more than we are making a month and we need to act fast to survive this tiny low after such a strong high. If we meet our goal we are confident that we will be able to continue serving you the full length of our lease.
We have been facilitating complimentary community events (open mics, comedy nights, workshops, etc). We provide local businesses an opportunity to showcase their products and launch their businesses. We offer pick-up options on our website at www.thehamlett.com. You can order delivery on Ubereats, Grubhub, and Doordash. You can rent our space for private events on Peerspace and Splacer. We have printing services, stadium seating, pastries, sandwiches, and amazing customer service. We have been on the news, San Diego magazine, Disney, and all over social media. We have done a lot, but we are going to have to take it to the next level if we want to thrive and survive through this period we are now in.
We have a plan and with your help, we think we can turn this ship around. Our plan includes the following:
- Rebuilding our saving reserve to cover payroll, rent, and other expenses during lows and emergencies
- Offering hot food options by purchasing the proper equipment
- Obtaining the permits for the new equipment
- Offering Boba Tea
- Offering Acai bowls
- Producing a direct mail campaign
- Purchasing paid advertisements on social media and the news
- Obtaining an entertainment permit
