Our family is facing an incredibly heartbreaking situation. My sister Lupe, my mother Maria, my niece Jasmine, and my nephew Damien have lost their home due to a fire.

My mom had just returned home from our traditional Sunday family breakfast when she smelled smoke. She tried to stop the fire, but while keeping Nyco—my nephew who was staying with her for Christmas—safe, she was only able to get him out of the house. She also managed to save the three dogs: Willie, Roka, and Atlas.

My nephew’s room was completely destroyed by the fire, and the rest of the home suffered severe smoke damage, making it unlivable. Tragically, there is no insurance. My sister had worked so hard to rebuild this home, which is also the house where my father once lived. We have always called it “Grandpa’s house,” making this loss especially painful for our family.

At this time, the family is staying with relatives. Finding space has been especially difficult as they are trying to stay together while also caring for their three dogs.

We are asking for donations primarily to help recover from the extensive smoke damage so the family can safely reenter the home and rebuild as best we can. Funds will also help cover basic necessities for the family during this time of displacement.

As if this were not enough, shortly after the fire, Miguel went to wash his clothes for work when he was involved in a serious accident that totaled his work vehicle. The family will need help securing a used work vehicle so he can return to work and continue providing for his family.

En este momento, la familia se encuentra hospedándose con familiares. Encontrar espacio ha sido especialmente difícil, ya que están tratando de mantenerse juntos y al mismo tiempo cuidar de sus tres perros.
