Help the families affected by the flood in Valencia

Hi, my name is Alba.

I am originally from Valencia but living in Scotland at the moment. Since I can’t personally help going to all those villages near my home, I have decided to raise some money and send it to the Quint Pizarro Falla in Mislata, who will be using this money to buy essential resources for the familiar affected by the storm.

I have never asked anyone for money and I am not the kind of person to post on social media to ask for help. However, as most of you will already know, Valencia, my city, is living one of the worst nightmares that we could ever imagine.

It is heartbreaking seeing all the pain, loss and disaster in the streets of all those villages around the city centre. I would have never thought I would see this happening in Spain, and even less in my home town. The numbers of deaths and the coverage about it is nowhere near what the reality of the situation over there is. I have daily messages from my friends saying how they could see the police finding bodies under cars, people opening garages and not knowing what they’re going to find and people devastated because they have lost their homes, cars and local businesses. I could not be prouder of all my friends and family who are walking km and km to go to the worst areas and help with shovels and brooms to anyone that needs their help.

So many of you have messaged me asking if my family and friends were okay and if there was anything you could do to help. I feel absolutely frustrated because I can’t be there helping with my own hands, so me and Lewis have organised this little collection to send over to the families in Valencia.

I will not be sending this to the Red Cross or any big organisation, since I know personally local organisations and people that are collecting money to buy food, water, blankets, boots and resources needed in these villages so I know first hand exactly where this money is going to go. I will send all the money collected to the local Falla Quint Pizarro in Mislata who will be using it to buy all the resources needed and delivering them personally to the families in need. Those families affected by the DANA in Valencia do not need money per se, they need food and water since they are isolated and without resources due to the situation in the roads, they supermarkets can’t get food and products delivered and they don’t even have clean drinking water. So they need people over there to be delivering these walking from one village to another.

I am aware there are some big companies such as Red Cross or Caritas who are also accepting donations. However, we will be donating it to the people directly. In any case, every little bit you can help with will make a difference!
