Help the C Family Rebuild Their Road Home

Donation protected
My name is Chris Snider. My family and I, along with the assistance of friends, are helping the C Family rebuild their 1.2 mile road up the mountain to their property after the devastation of Hurricane Helene destroyed it. We are from Virginia and have been helping to set up and run a donation center, the 501c3 nonprofit organization, Foscoe Home Team in Foscoe, NC at the Foscoe Grandfather Community Center, located outside Banner Elk. During our time volunteering, it was quickly identified the great need this family has encountered following the devastation of Hurricane Helene. I was introduced to this family and have gotten to know them through helping with various organizations providing tiny homes.

The C family, a proud and tight-knit family with deep roots in Western North Carolina dating back to the 1800s, has faced unimaginable challenges in recent years. Known for their resilience and determination, they have always taken pride in handling hardships on their own. However, they now need the community’s help to rebuild their private road and regain access to their mountain home.

Four years ago, the C family’s home tragically burned down, leaving them displaced. Mr. C, a devoted father and grandfather, spent three and a half years using all their savings to cut a road to a small plot of land at the top of a mountain where he placed a camper for his wife, their 13-year-old daughter, and their 33-year-old deaf son. Just six months after they moved in, Hurricane Helene devastated the area. The storm washed out the entire road, leaving the land inaccessible, and severely damaged their camper, which is now uninhabitable due to black mold and weather exposure.

Despite these setbacks, the C family’s hope remains strong. Mr. C’s adult daughter, whose own home was swept off its foundation during the storm, dreams of moving to the mountain property to help her father care for her brother. She and her four children, ages 17, 15, 6, and 4, are currently living in their storm-damaged home.

We have secured tiny homes to provide the family with safe housing, but without a road to the property, we can not deliver them. Rebuilding the road is essential to helping this family rebuild their lives and create a secure home for future generations.

The C family has shown incredible strength through years of adversity, but they can’t do this alone. Your donation will directly fund the construction of a new road. Specifically, funds will be used to purchase stone and gravel, drain culverts, gas for equipment, and any other needs for the road as they arise. Labor has already been donated. This road will allow the family to return to their land and begin to heal.

Please consider helping this proud and deserving family return home. Every contribution makes a difference.
