Hello everyone,
As many of you know, we received our infertility diagnosis two years ago. We had both always dreamed of being parents, and it was deeply upsetting for us. Over the past two years, we have attempted a couple different treatments to try and get pregnant, which have failed.
About seven months ago, we made the decision alongside our endocrinologist and fertility clinic to move forward with a donor gamete, as it is our best chance at producing a healthy pregnancy. The past seven months have been an exciting and emotional time for us as we carefully prepare for this next treatment option! We are mostly set to take this next step, we just need to ensure we have the necessary funds before we begin.
Unfortunately in Canada, no fertility treatments or medications are covered by either public health or private insurance. It is a completely privatized process, leaving couples experiencing infertility to pay the complete cost out of pocket. In the two years we have been doing fertility treatments, we’ve spent about $7,000 on hormone therapies, medications, specialized bloodwork, and clinic fees. We are so incredibly blessed that that figure is so low—many couples are not as fortunate.
As we journey into this next step, we have made the difficult decision to do some fundraising in order to help offset the large costs of treatment. Using donor gametes is quite expensive—we are budgeting to cover the costs of clinic fees, procedure fees, legal fees, travel to the mainland, processing/screening/storing/shipping donor gametes, and time away from work.
We have been so incredibly grateful for our community as we have journeyed through infertility. Every conversation, prayer, text, kind word, and gift has already blessed us immensely. Thank you to everyone who has reached out in some way or another—your compassion and love has carried us through the pain of infertility these past two years. We have no doubt that if we are blessed to have children, they will be loved by their whole village.
