On May 4, 2024, the Boykin Spaniel Club of Texas (BSCT) hosted its 11th annual Boykin Fun Day at the Olson ranch on the North Bosque River. We say it every year, but this was the best one yet!
The weekend took a dramatic turn at 3 a.m. when board members staying at the ranch had to make an emergency evacuation. Already saturated, Bosque County received upwards of eight inches of rain in a matter of hours, causing the worst flood on the North Bosque in more than 30 years. Within 15 minutes of evacuating, the buildings on the Olsons’ property were completely underwater.
Thankfully, everyone – pups included! – escaped unharmed. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the trailer. Stuck in the mud and left behind, the BSCT trailer and its contents were carried away by floodwaters and completely destroyed.
We salvaged what we could — a few tables spread out over half a mile and three properties — and used last several months to regroup.
Now, we’re reaching out to you for help. In the coming months, we will need to replace everything from the trailer, chairs, and crawfish boiler used at our annual Fun Day to BSCT merchandise, signage, and storage containers.
The Boykin Spaniel Club of Texas is a special community, and the items lost represent more than just things. They represent the commitment of volunteers who have dedicated over a decade of their lives to helping people care for and celebrate the Little Brown Dogs that bring us so much joy.
We sincerely appreciate any support you can offer as we work to rebuild. Despite this setback, we look forward to seeing everyone at the next Boykin Fun Day in May 2025!
Sincerely,
